Local hotel awarded “CARE Hotel of the Year” and first Doubletree designation as “Hotel and Suites,” nationwide
PITTSBURGH, PA. — Prospera Hospitality and the Doubletree® Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh City Center today announced a series of recognitions and awards, further enhancing its position as one of the elite hotels in Downtown Pittsburgh. The hotel earned the coveted “Doubletree CARE Hotel of the Year Award,” while also receiving the first and only ‘Hotel and Suites’ designation from Hilton Hotel Corporation. The hotel, which is owned by The Elmhurst Group, underwent a $13 million hotel-wide transformation in 2005, marking the return of the Doubletree experience to the Pittsburgh area.
The Doubletree CARE Hotel of the Year Award, which stands for Caring, Attentive, Responsive and Empowered, is the most prestigious hotel performance awards presented to only one of the 180 hotels worldwide, within the Doubletree brand. It was presented to Bob Andrews, chief operating officer of Prospera Hospitality, during the annual general managers meeting in Phoenix, AZ. The award acknowledges one hotel that exhibits consistent and exceptional performance in caring for guests, team members and its community. It was the first time in the history of the award that a hotel was selected during its first year of operation.
In just a few short months of operation, the hotel was also ranked seventh among 180 Doubletree properties throughout North America, according to the Doubletree Brand Promise Report. The report evaluates all Doubletree hotels in 14-product quality and service categories, including guestroom cleanliness, guest satisfaction and compliance with Doubletree brand standards.
“In less than one year this building was transformed into a modern hotel with numerous upscale amenities,” said Bob Andrews. “In the eighteen months the hotel has been in operation, the Doubletree Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh City Center has made an indelible impression on Pittsburgh’s hospitality industry and within the Doubletree organization. The hotel has been consistently ranked in the top ten percent for customer satisfaction, within the entire Doubletree brand. We attribute that to a dedicated and focused staff.”
In addition to offering guests the first-class amenities they have come to expect from the Doubletree name, the downtown hotel is also home to an independent, four-star restaurant, the Bigelow Grille. Local food critics have had spoonfuls of positive comments regarding executive chef Kevin Sousa’s innovative cooking style describing his food as innovative and imaginative interpretations of ethnic Pittsburgh classics. The restaurant has been ranked among the best restaurants in Pittsburgh since its debut in Fall 2005.
“This entire project emulates Prospera’s philosophy for delivering top-rated hotels,” said Kevin Kilkeary, president of Prospera Hospitality. “We are very pleased with our success and expect to continue to elevate the standard for full service hospitality.”
