Anthony Zallo To Appear at elite NFL charity event
PITTSBURGH, PA, — The Steel City will have more than just its championship football team at Super Bowl XLIII. Pittsburgh will also be proudly represented by the field general in the kitchen of the four-star rated Bigelow Grille. Executive Chef Anthony Zallo was selected to be a part of the Taste of the NFL, the culinary event of the Super Bowl, along with Steelers great Andy Russell. This marks the third year in a row that the NFL has recognized the exceptional cuisine of the Bigelow Grille.
The 18th annual event will be held on January 31 and features food and wine from top chefs in each of the 32 NFL cities. The chefs are paired with football greats from each city to raise awareness and funds for hunger-related charities around the country. A portion of this year’s proceeds will go directly to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
“The Taste of the NFL event this year will include one of our specialties at the Bigelow Grille,” said Anthony Zallo, executive chef, Bigelow Grille. “More importantly, the event will bring home financial support to help fill the need for families throughout the Pittsburgh area who are struggling to put food on the table.”
Chef Zallo will be preparing his famous peppery glazed chicken wings with garlic chips. The item, which is available daily as an appetizer for dinner, will also be featured on the lunch menu through February. Chef Zallo’s dining menu at the Bigelow Grille features organic and locally grown products.
“Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank receives funds from the Taste of the NFL celebration at the Super Bowl,” said Joyce Rothermel, CEO of the Food Bank, “So it’s great to know we are so ably represented by one of Pittsburgh’s finest restaurants. The Bigelow Grill has been a consistent friend to the Food Bank for many years. Many thanks to Chef Zallo for carrying on the tradition.”
Chefs are selected based on critic reviews, originality and quality of their menu and restaurant ratings.
While attending Taste of the NFL at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., guests will have the opportunity to sample food, meet the chefs, and take photos with host players and special celebrity guests. Ticket prices start at $500 and are available online at http://www.tasteofthenfl.com.
